DIE ZEIT: NIGER MIGRATION /June 29, 2018 by Ashley Gilbertson

After years of trying, I managed to get to Agadez, a town I’ve heard about from virtually every migrant and asylum seeker. A story about those very migrants being turned back by Libya and Algeria due to pressure from EU governments was published in Die Zeit.

I’ve seen The Stringer a few times now, and each time I’ve taken away something else. Why integrity is so vital in our field, - more and more as we descend into a post fact world; about abuse of the power dynamic among local and foreign media workers; and over and over I’m been reminded that truth is our core tenet in journalism, no matter how difficult it is to face sometimes. I’m moved by Nguyen Thanh Nghe, the author of that image, and I recognize that he’s not the only victim of this story. The @viifoundation under director @baomnguyen have made an unflinching and vital film. Thank you. If you feel moved, please consider supporting The VII Foundation and its training programs for emerging visual journalists around the world. Link in @viifoundation bio.

But the recent soaring price of gold — $4,267.90 an ounce at the close of market on Friday — along with rising prices of silver and platinum have created a new kind of frenzy on the block.” Writes @dionnesearcey in the @nytimes

Dr. Brendan Carr, today the CEO OF Mount Sinai, one of the largest hospitals in the country, joined the organization in February 2020 where he became the head of the Emergency Department. What timing - a few weeks before the first reported case of Covid-19. Mount Sinai led the charge combatting the virus in the city and the country, and their staffs commitment to our cities denizens saved tens of thousands, at least. With my sincere thanks, respect. He also likes to stop by the bar all his students drink at once a week and buy all their drinks and leave. Dead set legend.
