Marines run for cover after white phosphorus was accidentally fired at them by another company when Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, was somehow mistaken for a band of insurgents in Falluja, Iraq on November 9, 2004.
Gilbertson has focussed almost exclusively on the War in Iraq since 2002, covering the conflict from pre-Occupation through the Surge of 2008. A selection of this work, as well as essays detailing Gilbertson's experiences, were published as the acclaimed 2007 book, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: A Photographer's Chronicle of the Iraq War.
